As we approach our Nation’s Independence Day, I can’t help but think about how brave and dedicated our forefathers were. Think about it, they were mostly just a bunch of regular Joes and Janes like you and I. They were farmers, small businessmen, moms and dads. Kids too- some were as young as 15 or 16. They had a belief in something bigger than themselves. They had a vision for a pretty big hairy goal—divesting themselves from England and starting something brand new. What they wanted tomorrow was more important than where they were right now.

Sometimes a task or goal that changes the course of the path you’re on is pretty daunting. Even small tasks can be scary if you think you can’t do it. BUT YOU CAN. You’ve heard us say it before, and here it is again: sometimes the best way to accomplish something is just to start to start. Our forefathers were not content with the status quo, and from that, they just started to start.

Think back to your days studying US History. Do you remember what they used to get the word out? That’s right, they had a SYSTEM. They had a training system where they worked together, trained when. They could as a citizen militia, and would be ready to fight if need be at a moment’s notice (hence the term “minutemen”). And this weekend we celebrate just how well that system worked.

Getting organized is kind of like that. Decluttering can be overwhelming, it can be daunting, and just thinking about it sometimes can bring on nervousness and exhaustion. They key to dealing with this is to put together your own system—one that works for you and you can use to accomplish your goals. Whether it’s a closet, a playroom, a pantry, or even a garage, start with a goal, then a plan, then a system.

Remember: goal > plan > system. We’re here to help with any or all of the steps.
